Statehouse Recap | Feb. 7 to 9
by WREN STAFF on Feb 14, 2023
Last week at the South Carolina Statehouse, our anti-freedom legislatives were able to pass bills that threaten our bodily autonomy and censor how students learn about race and gender. While these harmful attacks on our bodies and our students were happening, we were also able to advocate for Paid Leave for Teachers.
A lot happened last week at the Statehouse. From anti-freedom legislators passing bills that threaten our bodily autonomy and censor how students learn about race and gender, to forward momentum on paid leave for teachers. Here’s three key updates:
1 – After almost no public testimony, the House Judiciary committee and the Senate passed two near-total abortion bans (H3774 & S.474). The House will meet TOMORROW to discuss abortion bans. Take Action against abortion bans in our state here: https://p2a.co/i2bxsp9
2- WREN is working hard to expand paid leave to teachers. A bill was introduced at the House last week, and we’re seeing strong early support. Help us take Action and Sign the Petition for Paid Parental Leave for Public School Employees in SC- https://p2a.co/qZOkzRx
3- The House passed H. 3728, which will censor educators and prevent them from teaching about past and present race and gender inequalities. We joined our partners in advocating against this.
