Sine Die 2017
by WREN Staff on May 9, 2017
Yesterday was sine die, the yearly adjournment day for the South Carolina General Assembly.
Thanks to the phenomenal efforts of advocates like you, two bills that will positively impact the lives of South Carolina women made impressive progress: the 12 Month-Supply of Birth Control bill, and the SC Pregnancy Accommodations Act.
Here’s how you did it:

Here’s where these bills will be when session continues:
- H.3809, the 12 Month Supply of Birth Control bill, has been introduced in the Senate and has been referred to the Committee on Banking and Insurance. In January, we will be requesting for this bill to appear on the committee agenda.
- H. 3865, the SC Pregnancy Accommodations, has also been introduced in the Senate and referred to the Judiciary Committee. Once again, we will be requesting for this bill to appear on the committee agenda.

Unfortunately, we also saw bills move forward that are dangerous to women and families across South Carolina.
- H. 3458, the abortion Method Ban bill, has been introduced in the Senate and referred to the committee on Medical Affairs. We will be offering new ways to contact legislators in opposition of this legislation in January.
- S.217, the “Personhood” Act, has been carried over by the Senate Judiciary committee. When a bill is “carried over,” it is being set aside for further study. However, it is possible for it to continue moving forward in January. We will keep you updated next year regarding any movement.
Thank you so much for your support. Stay tuned for more information about events and ways to stay involved this summer.
