Speak Out Against S.907 and S.988

by WREN Staff on Jan 25, 2022

We won’t let anti-choice legislators silence our voices! Anti-choice legislators made it difficult for people to testify at the January 26th subcommittee hearing for S.988 and S.907, in which they rushed both bills forward. We think that you deserve to be heard, and that’s why we’re launching the #StopTheBanSC Social Media Speakout.

Here’s what we need you to do!

Post a video or a photo of you holding a sign explaining your opposition to S.907 and S.988 on Social Media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and others) and tag legislators, demanding that they VOTE NO on these bills. Encourage your friends and family to join in. Use the hashtags #StopTheBanSC #SCPol and #AbortionIsEssential.

Here are some helpful instructions:

Step 1: Take a video of yourself stating your opposition to S.907 and S.988. You can read the same testimony you would have given if you were able to testify, or you can film yourself discussing why you oppose these restrictions and why you support abortion rights. OR Take a piece of paper and make a sign explaining why you oppose S.907 and S.988.

Step 2: Post the video or a photo of yourself holding the sign on Social Media with the following caption or something similar, make sure to tag your elected official and all Senate Medical Affairs Committee members (you can access the list of committee members here.)

Step 3: Share these instructions with friends, family members, co-workers, acquaintances, and others who believe that abortion is essential. And ask them to post their own Speakout on Social Media. We need as many people to post as possible!

Note on accessibility: We highly recommend using image descriptions for any images you post on social media. Click here to learn a bit more about how to do that.

Notes on confidentiality: We understand this is a tough topic and it can be dangerous/scary to put your face out there. If you are uncomfortable with sharing your face, please feel free to wear a mask, post a voice memo, or post your written testimony without a video.
