WREN Statement on President Biden’s Executive Order Protecting Access to Reproductive Health Care Services
by Ann Warner on Jul 11, 2022
We are glad that the Biden Administration is taking steps to attempt to mitigate the disastrous consequences the Supreme Court’s ruling on the Dobbs decision will have on the lives of Americans. However, these steps fall far short of what is required to protect our lives and our futures here in South Carolina. The fact is that federal institutions have failed to uphold our rights, and the states are now the main arena in the fight for justice. The people of South Carolina need to come together like never before: to demand that their state and local policymakers protect reproductive rights and bodily autonomy; fund the organizations that will provide care and support to the people who will suffer the consequences of these unjust abortion bans; and to organize with solidarity and mutual support for the long fight ahead. We demand that our elected officials at all levels – federal, state, and local – do everything in their power to protect us.
