2020 WREN Summit Call for Submissions
Dec 4, 2019
WREN is now accepting presentation submissions for our 2020 Summit on April 6, 2020, at the Columbia Museum of Art.
Calling all innovators! As we explore the theme of Mobilizing the Movement, we are seeking submissions from folks who are advocating in pursuit of gender equity in South Carolina, and seek to educate and activate a larger audience.
Advocacy doesn’t look one way. It happens at the Statehouse, in the workplace, the classroom, and in your neighborhood.
In thinking about the ways we each uniquely show-up in support of change, we want to hear from the community: including storytellers, historians, business leaders, poets, musicians, researchers, students, activists, and more on the work, research, or community-building you’re doing to address a cross section of issues like:
- Pay equity;
- Livable wages;
- Student debt crisis,
- Salary negotiations;
- Accessible and affordable childcare, housing, healthcare, or transportation;
- Gender and racial wealth gaps;
- Access to leadership and allyship in the nonprofit, private or political sectors;
- Safe, inclusive, and equitable workplace practices;
- Active listening as advocacy/allyship
- Diversifying participants in traditionally male-dominated spaces (e.g. manufacturing, constructions, military, sports, agriculture, etc.)
- Barriers faced by young folks in movement building,
- Accessible movement building, inclusion of disability rights;
- Caregiving (e.g. childcare, kinship care, caring for children with disabilities, caring for aging loved ones, etc.);
- Protections for domestic workers (e.g. nannies, housekeepers, caregivers for the elderly, etc.)
- Media representation of women, gender-expansive people, with particular focus on trans-women;
- Dismantling toxic masculinity;
- Self-care and supportive spaces;
- Freedom from violence

- What are the current barriers in place (socially, institutionally or otherwise)?
- How can we come together to make a change?
- What top 2 takeaways do you want the audience to leave with?
Diverse voices build sustainable movements. WREN values and encourages intersectional, interactive, and participatory proposals from a diverse set of presenters. Based on the pool of submissions, WREN may ask that accepted presenters partner with others and adjust their presentation based on the needs of the overall Summit.
