We’re turning 5!
Celeste Caldwell is a mixed media artist and illustrator from Charleston, South Carolina. She graduated from College of Charleston in 2018 with a double major in Studio Arts and Art History, and a minor in Arts Management. She completed a workstudy at Arrowmont School of Arts & Craft in 2019 where she studied fiber collage and encaustics. Caldwell’s work utilizes a variety of methods and mediums to explore the intimacy and vulnerability of the female experience. She recounts childhood memories of fortifying herself against danger and adult experiences of trying to ‘open up’ to a partner through 2-D and 3-D storytelling. Contrasting feminine fabrics with symbols of power, she explores the modern woman’s role within and outside of the home. Caldwell is deeply inspired by Southern folk culture, antiques, family memorabilia, and vintage children’s illustrations.
